DTEND:20100928T220000Z
DESCRIPTION:This talk will provide an overview of some of the challeng
es that society faces from science\nand technology relevant to electri
cal engineering and how the effective management and policy\nfor scien
ce and technology can serve to address those challenges. It will begin
with a brief\nsurvey of the history of the study of Science\, Technol
ogy\, and Society (STS) identifying the\ndifferent traditions of schol
arship. The focus of the talk will be a discussion of a recent\nscenar
io planning project on transportation systems and land-use in the Cent
re Region. This\nproject highlights the need for more dedicated study
on engineering systems and will suggest\npossible future directions\,
which will require the technological expertise of electrical\nengineer
